February Prayer Request Update
God revealed to Brenton and me that we need to actively seek mentorship instead of someone to mentor, as our current mentors will be heading for their first overseas assignment in the coming months. I’ve also decided that leading/starting a group is not where God wants my focus. Instead, I am focusing on plugging into what is already available here and building relationships. So I stepped down from leading any type of women's study or group. A big praise: we raised the exact amount needed for Brenton to attend the international Bible translation conference in the Netherlands in mid-May.
What’s Happening at JAARS?
Brenton and some colleagues recently met with the Director of IT of the evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization Samaritan's Purse to discuss possible IT partnering opportunities. While there, Brenton discussed MicroBible Portals with him and obtained some additional contacts. These contacts are other organizations actively seeking solutions to break through anti-Christian digital barriers that prevent the spread of the gospel.
Brenton is also going through budget refinement for his department. Pray for him/JAARS to develop a way to maintain all the paid staff in the IDT Department.
JAARS is putting more energy into establishing itself in Africa. Please be praying for the leadership's unity and godly guidance in these efforts.
MicroBible Portals (MBP)
Brenton completed the first MBP phone and app! While it works in the US, we are uncertain of its efficacy in other countries. Brenton will be testing its viability in Europe while he is at the conference. The plan is to purchase three phones, one from Germany, Brussels, and Amsterdam, to turn them into MBP phones for his booth at the conference. This will allow him to test the service in each of these countries. We estimate the total cost for the display to be around $1,300. Please pray that Brenton would build a relationship with an organization, or more, that currently works in a Christian-suppressed country for further testing of MBP.
The next development step Brenton is working on is having more Bible translations available through the application. The main translations he’s focusing on are Spanish, French, Arabic, and Chinese.
We wanted to provide a general cost breakdown for each MBP phone. The phone itself costs $130 to $300, and the service costs from $20 to $50 per month ($240 to $600 per year), depending on the country of use.
Family Update
It’s been five months since our move. We have completely moved from Fayetteville and paid off all our debt (praise God)! We are still searching for a sending church. Coming from a military Chapel, we don’t have a church to partner with us in MBP. Specifically, we are looking for a local church that can take on our project, as many churches in the Waxhaw area are at capacity with JAARS being located here.
Brenton is still working in addition to serving at JAARS to support us. Please pray that we will meet our financial goal by the end of July so he can resign and focus only on MBP and JAARS.
Both kids are growing well! Anastasia has learned how to pedal and loves to ride her tricycle. She loves to learn and is very excited to start early pre-K at home in the next couple of months. Theodore is rolling and scooting himself everywhere and has seven teeth at nine months old! Theodore also loves making a mess as he’s learning to feed himself. Since May of last year, I have been trying to contest an inaccurate criminal traffic citation. I finally have a trial date set for July 8th. Please pray that the truth would be brought to light and my innocence made apparent in the situation.
Please let us know how we can be praying for you!
Until next time,
Brenton, Nicolle, Anastasia, and Theodore Maltbie
