Maltbie Family Update
Hi friends and family! We have slowly been settling into our new home and community, and the chaos is gradually dying down (as much as it can with two littles in an RV). We want to share with you how we ended up living and volunteering at JAARS (Jungle Aviation And Relay Service) and how we feel led to serve here.
What Led Us Here
In the Spring of 2023, God put it on Brenton's heart through Jeremiah 10:14-16 [14]: "Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed by his idols. The images he makes are a fraud; they have no breath in them. [15]They are worthless, the objects of mockery; when their judgment comes, they will perish. [16] He who is the Portion of Jacob is not like these, for he is the Maker of all things, including Israel, the people of his inheritance— the LORD Almighty is his name." to start using his IT knowledge to serve the Kingdom. Hoping to go on periodic mission trips, Brenton sought out JAARS. Director of IT was the only position available at the time, so he applied in June of 2023, hoping to get his foot in the door. Fast forward to May of 2024, Brenton finally heard back from JAARS about the position. From June to September he had a handful of interviews and meetings and was then offered the volunteer position of Director of IT. Keeping Matthew 6:33 at the forefront of our prayers, God answered them and we decided this was God's next plan for us. Brenton accepted the offer.
We bought an RV to live at the JAARS RV park, packed up our house, put our home and rental property on the market, and moved as quickly as we could. Brenton started working part-time for JAARS the first week of November, and we moved as a family on November 23rd. In mid-January Brenton was finally able to resign from his full-time job in Fayetteville and start working for JAARS full-time. Prayers that God answered for this to happen were: both our properties had finalized sales within seven weeks of being put on the market, and Brenton received a remote job offer to supplement our living needs for the time being.
Our Work With JAARS
From the beginning of our walk with the Lord, through Matthew 28:18-20, God has called us to focus on generational discipleship. Focusing on intentional life-on-life relationships, encouraging others to grow in maturity in their relationship with Christ, as we do the same. Doing this at JAARS looks like us being able to partner with our mentors, Matthew and Hannah Clark, in a discipleship program they are leading for the apprentices (aviation missionaries in training).
Micro Bible Portals
JAARS uses aircraft, boats, and off-road vehicles to carry Bible translators and other missionaries across barriers that would otherwise keep them from reaching communities in need of the Word. Since being exposed to the needs of missionaries and the dangerous environments they are often in, Brenton has desired to develop a more discreet way of sharing the Bible in dangerous countries. A project he is calling Micro Bible Portals. Currently, there are 52 countries where the Bible is actively being suppressed. Using today’s technology, he can develop a cellphone web server containing the Bible. By using a QR code on these cell phones, the Word can be quickly and less traceably shared in some of the world’s most dangerous places.
Prayer Requests
Strengthen relationships we’ve made here and one to two key people to invest in.
A clear vision for a women's Bible study I am preparing to co-lead with a friend.
Raise $2,000 for Brenton to attend an international Tech Conference in Amsterdam to spread his plan of Micro Bible Portals.
We're joyful to be serving the Lord and being able to freely share all he's called us to do. We look forward to providing you with periodic updates, but please do not hesitate to reach out sooner if you desire to or have questions.
