What is JAARS?

We reduce barriers, ease burdens and deliver God’s Word. We do that by training, equipping, deploying and sustaining individuals, teams and stations to aid in the work of the Bible translation movement in proclaiming the gospel to the whole creation.

My role is to lead a team of over 30 paid, supported, and volunteer staff who work to ease any burden using modern technology. I get to use my skills in technology and leadership to direct faithful men and women in ways that bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to more people in more places.

I feel very grateful that God has given me this opportunity. I get to make sure that every JAARS Alliance aviator, sailor, and driver can focus on taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth. The vision statement of the IT department is, "They will have faith in us because they will see our faith in Him." God has put it on my heart to ensure that emails, training slides, phone calls, donations, and more will always operate in a manner befitting an organization run by faithful people who have put God's mission above themselves.

JAARS Apprenticeship Discipler

In 2024, JAARS launched an aviation apprenticeship program designed to take faithful, educated, and trained pilots and mechanics and equip them with the experience needed to become gospel-rooted missionaries with the technical know-how to support aviation operations in the world's most remote locations. Alongside that technical training, a discipleship program was developed to prepare these apprentices and their spouses spiritually for life overseas.

Discipleship sits at the heart of that preparation. Jesus's final command to His followers was to go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey everything He had commanded (Matthew 28:19–20). A disciple is a learner and follower of Christ — one who denies himself, takes up his cross daily, and follows Jesus (Luke 9:23). Discipleship, then, is not simply the transfer of information but the sharing of life itself (1 Thessalonians 2:8), as one believer entrusts the faith to another who will in turn teach others (2 Timothy 2:2). For those preparing to serve in remote and isolated places, this kind of rooted, relational faith is essential; technical skill may open the door, but a life surrendered to Christ is what sustains the mission.

As a discipler in this program, I was paired with two apprentice wives to grow in faith together, encourage one another, and help guide each other toward Christ in every situation.

A specific curriculum — a field map called the Equipped for the Field Study — was developed for the program. It walks through the book of Acts, focusing first on how to FOLLOW (Life in Christ) and then how to FISH (Life on Mission), with the theme drawn from Matthew 4:19: "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." It is a roadmap designed to build the confidence to lead, equip others with the tools, and develop the skills to live a life centered on Christ's mission.

Missionary Kids (MK) Station Teacher Assistant

The Missionary Kids (MK) Station is JAARS' Early Childhood Center and part of the JAARS Youth and Family ministry. Our mission is to provide resources and training to JAARS-connected families and their Christian communities in order to support spiritual growth, facilitate smooth transitions, and equip families to thrive wherever God leads. The MK Station serves children from three months to kindergarten age whose families are associated with JAARS, Wycliffe Bible Translators, or SIL, using a new curriculum designed to help children grow through Christ-centered learning, creativity, and exploration. As Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it" — and those first years are where that training begins.

My role at the MK Station is Teacher Assistant (Floater). This entails providing instructional support across various classrooms as needed, filling in for regular teachers who are absent or unavailable, assisting children with daily activities, lessons, and crafts, and maintaining a safe classroom environment that encourages them to create and explore. I also help lead Benediction Table, a time each morning when all of the classes gather together to pray for our JAARS community and missionaries, sing songs, and listen to a Bible story. I have always loved caring for children, and this opportunity to serve fellow missionaries and friends has been such a blessing.
